Why AI is metered, not bundled per person

Every task app is now also an AI company, whether it wanted to be or not. That creates a pricing problem most of them are quietly getting wrong, because AI costs real money per use, and the old SaaS habit is to charge per seat. Those two facts do not fit together. We tried several ways to make them fit before landing on the answer: a flat workspace price, plus metered AI through what we call the To-Did Ledger.
The problem with per-seat AI
Per-seat pricing was designed for software that costs about the same to run whether a user logs in once a month or lives in the app all day. AI is the opposite. A heavy user can cost ten times what a light one does. So when you bundle "unlimited AI" into a per-seat plan, you are really doing one of two things: pricing the seat high enough to cover your heaviest users, which overcharges everyone else, or capping the AI so hard that "unlimited" is a fiction. Neither is honest, and both punish the wrong people.
Per-seat pricing has a second problem we refused to ship: it punishes collaboration. Adding a teammate should make the work better, not raise the bill. So the seat was never going to be our unit.
The model: flat account price plus a Ledger
ToDidIt charges per account, with unlimited teammates and unlimited workspaces. Squad and Business each have one flat price, and everyone on the account shares the features. The AI sits on top of that as the To-Did Ledger: a shared monthly allowance of AI outcomes, with simple refills if you need more. You pay the flat price for the product and you pay for the AI you actually keep. Nothing is pretend-unlimited, and nobody subsidizes anyone else.
The Ledger is shared across the workspace on purpose. A team has heavy AI weeks and quiet ones, and pooling the allowance smooths that out far better than handing each person a tiny personal quota. It also means a new teammate joining never changes the math on the base plan. They just draw from the same pool.
Why metering is the fair version, not the stingy one
Metering sounds less generous than "unlimited" until you notice that unlimited is the stingy option in disguise. Unlimited has to be defended with quiet throttles, slow models for the busy, and prices set for the worst case. A clear allowance plus honest refills means a light user pays a light bill, a heavy user pays for what they use, and the model you get is the good one every time. We would rather tell you exactly what you are buying.
