It is a single batched call, so the price is flat regardless of whether you have six overdue tasks or two hundred. Per-task pricing would have made the feature most expensive exactly when someone needs it most, which is the wrong incentive to build into a product.
Because the honest answer for a lot of long-overdue tasks is that they are never getting done, and a list that will not let you say so is a list you eventually stop opening.
