Today

The morning-routine surface: what is overdue, what is due today, what you already finished today, and what is coming tomorrow.

By Updated

Opening once in the morning and knowing what the day is. It pulls a tight working set rather than everything you own, and t gets you here from anywhere.

  • Overdue, first, because it is the part that decides the day.
  • Due today, the actual list.
  • Completed today, which stays on the page. See below.
  • Due tomorrow, so the end of the day is not a surprise.

Most task apps clear it out of sight the moment you tick it. Today keeps it, because seeing four things done by eleven changes how the rest of the day goes, and an empty screen at 5pm is a bad description of a day you worked hard in.

It is the same instinct as the ToDid Log, which keeps the record permanently rather than for a day.

If a task shows in place of its checkbox, something under it is unfinished. Today selects by due date, so a parent due today can have a subtask due next week that is not on this screen at all.

The padlock is worked out against your whole workspace rather than what is visible here, so it is right even when the thing blocking it is somewhere else entirely.

Your current run of days with something completed, derived from a ninety-day window so the number matches the one on the Dashboard and on Streaks. One number, three places, no arguing.

The Daily Focus Brief picks out what matters from the same set, and it costs nothing because it is arithmetic rather than a model call.

For a pile of overdue work that needs decisions rather than reading, Overdue Honesty proposes a reschedule, delegate, delete or keep for every one of them at once.
